FOIA DATA

13 Years of DWR FOIA Data: FY13 – FY25
Each year’s data compiled into a table for comparison

The first table is FY2013-2022. These are all the categories that DWR used over this time frame. As the years progressed, DWR began tracking more categories for more accurate data. If a field is blank, it is because DWR wasn’t collecting that data at the time.

In 2023, DWR changed their FOIA reports to provide even more accurate data and sub-data, so the following tables for FY2023 – FY2025 will look different.

This table is for the code HDOGS, which is used for a complaint being made involving a hunting dog or hunter with a dog that does NOT involve a violation of the law. In other words, these are calls that are made to DWR about hound hunting, but no violation was determined to have taken place.

This table is for the code HVDOGS, which is used for a complaint being made involving a hunting dog or hunter with a dog that DOES involve a violation of the law. This is the one that is the most important because these are the actual violations with regard to hound hunting. (This is in contrast to the previous code, which are DWR complaints being made about hound hunting with no violation occurring.)

This last table is for all the other codes DWR uses for collecting data on DWR calls during the year. We also included to summary totals for HDOGS and HVDOGS again at the end of the list of codes so that all DWR codes would be in one place.

OMDogs is a code for all other complaints involving a dog, such as a dog running at large
CFS All dogs is a code for a complaint containing the word “dog” via a keyword search that excludes HDogs, HVDogs, and OMDogs.
CFS All hunt the total sum of all calls made to DWR
Cases with arrests are DWR calls that result in an arrest. There is no conviction data
Cases with warnings are DWR calls that result in a warning.
Cases w-o-warnings or arrests are DWR calls that result in neither a warning nor an arrest.
HVDogs: the code for a complaint being made involving a hunting dog or hunter with a dog that
DOES involve a violation of the law.
HDogs: the code for a complaint being made involving a hunting dog or hunter with a dog that
does NOT involve a violation of the law.
